Making the right choice in the cafeteria
Research shows students who eat the cafeteria meal consume more key nutrients than students that eat lunch from other sources including those who bring their lunch from home. The best meal choice for your student is the full meal, (Priced as a unit) this includes an entrée, 2 side choices and small milk. The meal is the best choice for value in price and nutrition. Many students do not select enough side choices to qualify for a meal. If enough side choices are not selected, the selected items may be charged as ala carte prices which will likely exceed the meal price. Encourage your student to select a full meal for the best value for your budget.
Eating a balanced meal is the best choice for nutrition.
Teaching our students to make good food choices requires parent input and support. Get involved with encouraging good food choices by signing up for MealpayPlus. MealpayPlus is on-line payment software where you can track your student’s purchases in the cafeteria. You can review what your student is eating. Is a full meal breakfast or lunch purchased; or are snacks and drinks being purchased in place of a full meal?
This is a free service! Go to www.mealpayplus.com to register on-line. You will need your student’s school ID number to set up the account. You can also make a payment to your student’s meal account. (There is a 4.75% service fee to make on-line payments.) Help us in the fight to keep our students healthy by reviewing your student’s purchases and encouraging them to make the right choice in the cafeteria.
