Summit Softball Parent Information Letter
7th and 8th Grade Girl’s Softball
Requirements:
The following forms must be on file with your coach before you will be allowed to practice:
1. Physical form and information sheet completed and signed by physician, student and parent.
2. Medical Release (this give the school permission to get your child immediate medical treatment at a hospital, if needed, in the event that we cannot reach a parent).
Practice Times and Dates:
1. Practice begins August 17th at Summit Middle School softball fields. We will begin practice at 2:00PM and it will end at 4:00PM.
2. Student Athletes must be picked up when practice/games are over. Please do not expect coaches to wait more than 20 minutes after a practice/game is over.
Clothing:
Be prepared!! This is Oklahoma and the weather may be nice when you leave home in the morning and turn cold by the end of the day. Have a bag with warm-ups, gloves, and clothes that you can layer. We will not go outside if the weather is below freezing or there is precipitation. W will, however, have shortened practices inside at Summit ending at 4:00. You will need a good pair of running shoes for these days.
Equipment:
Athletes must have a glove to play. Optional equipment includes: a bat, cleats and a helmet.
Parent Communication with Coaches:
For all matters where there is a question or need for clarification in reference to policies concerning Student Athletes and team procedures and guidelines, it is our expectation that parents and athletes adhere to the following procedures:
1. Student Athlete initiates communication with coach. It is our belief that this essential first step is taken in order for the Student Athlete to build communication skills and a positive rapport with the coach.
2. If necessary, for further clarification and/or questions, contact the head coach by 1) email or 2) telephone.
3. Finally, if the aforementioned guidelines are followed and you feel the matter is still unresolved, contact Summit Athletic Director.
4. There will be no parent/coach discussion at, before or after a game is played. You must wait 24 hours until an issue is addressed.
Grades/Eligibility:
School is the number one priority! If the Student Athlete is on the ineligible/probation list (failing one or more class for two consecutive weeks), she will not be allowed to compete in practice or games. If a Student Athlete is removed from the eligibility list, she may return to practice and games the following week. If a student is ineligible for three weeks they may be removed from the team. Athletes must be eligible according to the Edmond Public Schools eligibility requirements, so keep your grades up!
Behavior:
If a Student Athlete is place in alternative in school placement (AISP) or placed in our of school suspension, she will not be allowed to practice or play while suspended or in AISP.
Team Conduct:
All athletes are expected to:
1. Be at practice everyday on time.
2. Treat others with respect.
3. Refrain from using profanity.
4. Represent their school in a mature manner at all times.
5. Follow school dress codes at practice and games.
Attendance:
If a Student Athlete is sick or there is a reason why she cannot attend practice, please leave a voicemail or leave a message at the school for the coaches. If a Student Athlete cannot attend a game, please let us know well in advance.
In order to be on the softball team it is very important that you attend every practice. Failure to do so may affect the athlete’s privilege to attend games and could result in dismissal from the team. Athletes must be in attendance at practice the day before a game (unless otherwise discussed with the coach) or they may not attend the game.
Transportation:
Transportation will be provided to game sites. If the game is in the Edmond School District, athletes must be picked up from the game site by a parent or guardian. If the game is outside of the district there will be transportation back to Summit Middle School.
