All Summit 7th and 8th grade Orchestra students will be involved in the Edmond Chamber Music Festival (ECMF).  The contest is scheduled for April 10 - location to be announced.

Each student has been preparing a small ensemble, a large ensemble and a solo.

We feel that participation in ensemble work is a vital part of the eduational process in music.  The members of the ensemble use the skills that they have learned in the classroom to parepare the piece themselves with very little input from the teachers.  Ensemble work helps to develop leadership, build self-esteem and instill pride in the students' accomplishments.

There is a small fee for the contest entry.  The small ensemble participation fee is $2.50 a member and the solo fee is $6 a soloist - payable to Summit Orchestra.  The soloists will need to have an accompanist, Mrs. Moore is available to play for a fee of $10 a soloist.

6th Grade

The Sixth Grades Orchestra classes are beginning their tests on their scales.  You can find them on page 42 of their book.  We just had a test on BINGO and are working on C natural and F natural and pages 34 and 35 and we are working on Snake Charmer.  Students are also beginning to play the Minuet by J. S. Bach.

Summit Middle School will celebrate Pi Day on March 12.  8th hour students are asked to bring cookies to share with the class.

7th and 8th hour orchestra students will not need their instruments at school on that day.

I am so proud of how well the 7th Grade Orchestra performed for the Concert and Contest in February.  The group received an excellent rating on their concert performance and a superior rating in Sight-reading.

We are now beginning to choose solos and ensembles as we prepare for our Chamber Music Festival which is held in April.

8th Grade

8th Grade Parents are welcome to attend the OASIS meeting at Santa Fe the 2nd Monday evening of the month.  OASIS is the parent support group of the Santa Fe High School Orchestras.

Students enrolling in the Santa Fe High School Orchestra should just put Orchestra on their enrollment form.  Audition material for the Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra will be handed out in early May. Those students not qualifying for the symphony orchestra will be enrolled in the Santa Fe String Orchestra.

Congratulations to the 8th Grade Soloist who scored a Superior Rating at OSSAA District Contest February 27th

Sally Oh, Violin   Dante Chao, Violin    Aaron Fine, Violin

The 8th Grade Orchestra did a great job of performing for the Contest and Concert in February.  They scored an excellent rating on their Concert pieces and a Superior rating in Sight-reading.

Students are now working toward our chamber music contest which will be held in April.

All Students Instruments should be taken home daily

We cannot assure the safety of instruments left in the Orchestra room overnight or the weekend.  If a student has forgotten his instrument at school, access to the building is possible until the custodial staff leaves for the evening.
