Dear Parents of Second Graders:
I am excited to share a special project we start the year with all of
our second grade students, the FROG AND TOAD FAN CLUB! It begins with a Frog Frenzy in the classroom where the students study the life cycle of the frog and progresses into the media center with the focus on the famous author/ illustrator, Arnold Lobel. This award winning author is most remembered for his series of those lovable friends, Frog and Toad. All four titles appeal to readers, young and old.
In class we learn about the life of Arnold Lobel, practice his use of personification to animate his characters and master using the library's automated look up stations to locate both fictional and informational books about frogs and toads. To become a certified member of the Frog and Toad Fan Club, your child must READ ALL FOUR BOOKS ALOUD TO YOU! Even if your child has read any of these books prior, they will read them aloud while interacting with you and completing the survey. When you receive the official application, sign your name in each of the four places designated for you and have your child return this completed sheet to their teacher. There will be a "celebration of reading" at the end of the program where all will receive their offical membership cards. Watch for opportunities to volunteer and donate to make this a success!
Be sure to check the dates for deadlines on all forms. Hoppy reading and interacting with your child.
Thank you for your assistance,
Sherry Park, Library Media Specialist
