Making Effective Choices is a Learned Behavior

Effort is Required!

 General Information

The school psychologist provides collaboration and consultation with school personnel and students regarding school based interventions, as well as program planning that may include, but not limited to, behavior choices, social skill development, cognitive processing, academic skills, child development and crisis management.

Middle School

Middle school can be a wonderful experience, but it can also be a difficult time as your child learns to meet increased academic demands and to navigate the social scene. Middle school students are striving for independence, but require supervision. They are on a quest for freedom, but need to be reminded that with increased freedom comes increased personal responsibility.  During these formative years it is important to keep the lines of communication open.

Car time is an excellent time to turn off the iPod, cell phone and portable T.V. You have a captive audience. Take this time to engage your child in casual conversation.

A Note About Bullying

Unfortunately, while we all strive to eradicate bullying, your child is more than likely to encounter bullying one way or another.  He/She may be the target of a bully, may witness a bully in action, or may be a bully.  It is very important to note that bullying does not only happen in person, but can also happen in the safest environments---home. Many students have experienced the pain of cyber-bullying in the form of e-mail, text messaging and the web pages. Middle school students may insist that their pages are private and none of your business. Wrong!! It is your business and your responsibility to know what is being said and whom your children are communicating with through electronic devices.
