Swine  Week

ABOUT SWINE WEEK

Swine Week is an annual tradition at EMHS.  It started in 1986, when students at the school raised money for an ill classmate's medical expenses.  At that time, the principal challenged the students to raise $5000, and pledged to kiss a pig if they succeeded.  They did, he did, and Swine Week was born!

Since its humble beginnings, the Swine Week fundraising goal for each year has grown to incredible proportions.  Last year's goal was $250,000, and we demolished it by raising an astounding $319,000!  The funds raised are donated to such worthy causes as the Edmond Family Center for Autism, Oklahoma Leukemia/Lymphoma Foundation for Children, Hearts for Hearing, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.  The theme, goal, and chosen charity change every year.  This year, the Swine Week theme is 'Piggy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory'.  Our fundraising goal is $275,000 and we have chosen the Jimmy Everest Children's Cancer Center at OU as our charitable organization.

Swine Week has become an integral part of EMHS and the Edmond community.  The generosity shown by our community each year is overwhelming, and we appreciate every contribution.  Please continue to help us help others by donating to Swine Week.  Thank you!!

UPDATE!
$527,704.88!!

Friday afternoon's assembly brought an amazing week to a seemingly-impossible conclusion.  The Grand Total was announced during this assembly, and it was stunning!  We started this year's Swine Week with a goal of $275,000, and ended the week having raised $527,704.88 for the Jimmy Everest Children's Cancer Center!
We can't thank the Edmond community enough for all the support you've shown us this week - we could not have accomplished such an incredible feat without you.  With your support and assistance, the Jimmy Everest Children's Cancer Center is much closer to finding a cure for childhood cancer.  So from everyone at EMHS, a huge THANK YOU to you all - we did it again!

Last Day of Swine Week

Today's assembly capped off an amazing week of events, food, games, competitions, and fun!  We completed a few more dares, watched Piggy-Vision, and announced the Grand Total - a staggering
$527,704.88!!!

During this week, we've also experienced the serious side of Swine Week.  We've seen the faces of cancer survivors who have directly benefitted from everything the Jimmy Everest Children's Cancer Center offers.  The students and faculty at EMHS are honored to be part of the fight against childhood cancer, and hopeful that our efforts have brought us all closer to a cure.

Thank you, Edmond, for your incredible support of Swine Week!  Your generosity is overwhelming and we couldn't have done it without you!  Thanks to your donations, we are all half a million dollars closer to a cure!

Day Four of Swine Week

Today's theme was "Willy Wonka Day", with many representations of Wonka candy, the man himself, Willy Wonka, and Oompa-Loompas.  We had more special guests with us at today's assembly, which was the annual 'Techno Assembly', so glow-in-the-dark and 'blacklight' ruled!  The Big Bad Bulldog Band's drumline kicked off the blacklight portion of the assembly in spectacular fashion, and even threw in a Prom invitation! (btw, she said 'yes'!)  Each grade put on a terrific techno presentation, Stomp pumped the whole crowd up, and we saw more "Wake-Up Videos".  Two dares were paid for today, and as a result of one, our principal was serenaded by one of our students - a fun way to dive head-first into her first Swine Week!

Day Three of Swine Week

Today was "Hollywood Celebrity" day, and students were dressed as everything from Lady Gaga to Octo-mom.  The halls were an interesting sight with all those 'celebrities' running around!  The assembly included a video featuring patients from the Jimmy Everest Center, and a few of this years "Wake-Up Videos".  We had guest speakers, including another of our EMHS students who has been treated at the Jimmy Everest Center.  Today was also "Fear Factor" day, with some of our students participating in races after eating or drinking disgusting concoctions that included raw fish, milk, eggs, whipped cream, and other things we would rather not remember.  There was also a milk-chugging contest, a couple of dares were paid for and completed, and the Date Auction winners were announced.

Day Two of Swine Week

. . . and the excitement continues!  Today's assembly included a terrific performance by the EMHS Winter Guard, the Faculty vs. Student basketball and dodgeball games, and lots of 'trash talk' from the student body.  In the end, it wasn't just 'trash', as the students defeated the faculty in both games, although the basketball game was a very close 19-18.  We had special guests from the Jimmy Everest Center, and a very brave young man who is currently a patient there, along with his parents.    Finally, the big surprise of the day - Rumble the Bison, the OKC Thunder mascot, made a special appearance and stirred the entire gymnasium into a frenzy!

Day One of Swine Week

What a great way to kick off all the events we have planned!  The students looked fabulous in their 'Class Colors'!  The assembly was a huge success, and included foot races, "Golden Egg" searches, gross drinks, Hippity-Hop races, hurdles, puzzles, and lots of SLIME!
