The Edmond North Orchestra, under the direction of Peter Markes, received straight superior ratings for all four ensembles at the recent Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association (OSSAA) Class 6A State String Orchestra Competition. The accomplishment marks a new school and state record. Edmond North’s Symphony, Philharmonic, Chamber and String Orchestras received superiors in both performance and in sight reading.
Santa Fe High School’s Symphony and Philharmonic Orchestras also received superior ratings in performance and sight reading as did Edmond Memorial High School’s Symphony Orchestra. In addition, the Santa Fe and Memorial Symphonies also received sweepstakes awards-the highest honor given by the state activities association.
The Edmond Public Schools strings program is the largest in the state.
