- Around
and Around We Go
- Working in partners, students in grades 7
through 9 will measure the circumference and diameter of various round
objects. They will then record this and determine the ratio of the
circumference to the diameter.
-
- Ask
Dr. Math
- This site features geometry questions and
answers for high school students.
-
- Assorted
Sports (by area) Lesson Plan
- You have played games all your life. You know
some playing fields are larger than others. In this lesson for grades
5 through 8, students will discover the dimensions of the different sports
and compute the area of the playing fields.
-
- Buffon's
Needle Lesson
- Buffon's Needle is one of the oldest problems
in the field of geometrical probability. It was first stated in 1777. It
involves dropping a needle on a lined sheet of paper and determining the
probability of the needle crossing one of the lines on the page. The
remarkable result is that the probability is directly related to the value
of pi. These pages will present an analytical solution to the problem along
with a program (written for Macintosh computers) for simulating the needle
drop in the simplest case scenario in which the length of the needle is the
same as the distance between the lines.
-
- Conjectures
in Geometry
- This page has been designed to provide an
interactive technological resource for students studying elementary high
school geometry. Basic concepts, conjectures, and theorems found in typical
geometry texts are introduced, explained, and investigated. Follow-up
activities are provided to further demonstrate meanings and applications of
concepts.
-
- Eratosthenes
Measures the Earth's Circumference
- In this lesson for grades 9 through 12,
students will estimate the diameter and circumference of the Earth by
repeating Eratosthenes’ experiment, use the Internet to exchange measured
data and results, and use the Internet to research the mathematical and
scientific contributions of Eratosthenes.
-
- Euclid's
Elements
- Euclid's Elements form one of the most
beautiful and influential works of science in the history of humankind. Its
beauty lies in its logical development of geometry and other branches of
mathematics. It has influenced all branches of science, but none so much as
mathematics and the exact sciences.
-
- Flashcard
- This site offers online flashcards for
geometry.
-
- Gallery
of Interactive Geometry
- This gallery provides lots of graphical
representations of geometric theorems and concepts.
-
- Geometry
- Euclid have you stumped? Archimedes run rings
around your head? Well, you've come to the right place. This is where you'll
find almost everything you'll ever need to know about geometry. There is a
special page on constructions and plenty of sample problems to help you
understand the concepts. Have a blast and don't forget to check out the
glossary.

Center
- The Geometry Center is a mathematics research
and education center at the University of Minnesota. It is funded by the
National Science Foundation as part of the Science and Technology Center
program. The Center has a unified mathematics computing environment
supporting math and computer science research, mathematical visualization,
software development, application development, video animation production,
and K-16 math education.

Cooperative Lesson Plans
- Math lesson plans in geometry can be found on
this New Brunswick Cooperative Learning site.
-
- Geometry
in Action
- Real-world applications of the principles of
geometry are the focus of this valuable web site. Here you will find ways to
apply the content of your geometry class to such fields as architecture,
meteorology, textile layout, cartography, robotics, and dozens of other
areas.

- Geometry
Problem of the Week
- Each week, the Math Forum puts up another
geometry problem and asks for solutions to be submitted by students. This
site includes the solutions for past problems, as well as help for teachers
and students.
-
- Geometry
Project of the Month
- Each month, the Math forum sponsors a special
geometry problem and asks for solutions to be submitted by students. This
site also includes the solutions for past projects.

- Interactive
Math Lessons
- Math Goodies' interactive math lessons use a
problem-solving approach and actively engage students in the learning
process. Each lesson works as an independent learning module or as a
supplement to other math instruction. The lessons are designed primarily for
students in grades 5 through 8. Currently, there are 32 innovative math
lessons for you to browse through, organized into volumes. Each volume
consists of a related group of lessons and one set of challenge exercises.
Volumes include Integers, Understanding Percent, Number Theory,
Circumference and Area of Circles, and Perimeter and Area of Polygons.

- Introduction
to Geometry
- Learn geometry from four basic lessons
provided at this site and then take a final quiz to test your knowledge.
-
- Introduction
to Vectors
- This site for high school students offers a
wonderful tutorial on vectors and includes pictures and sketches. Some of
the many topics covered include Vector Basics, Vectors and Points, Vector
Addition, Vector Subtraction, Length, Unit Vectors, and many more.

- Manipulate
Math with JAVA
- This is not your father's arithmetic. Math
here is animated in sleek, fast applets that are interactive programs
designed to allow students to manipulate things and see a lot of animation;
thus helping them grasp the meaning of mathematical ideas. There are already
over 200 applets, and new ones are added on a regular basis.

on problems dealing with geometric shapes and fractions.
-
- Polyominoes
Lesson
- Have you ever played dominoes? How about
Tetris? What do those two games have in common? Both games use pieces that
are formed of squares placed side by side. Dominoes use two squares; Tetris
pieces (or tetrominoes) use four squares. Mathematician Solomon Golomb, in a
1953 talk at the Harvard Mathematics Club, defined a whole class of
geometric figures like this called polyominoes. Lots of fun mathematics has
been done with them since.
