The Operations Department oversees transportation, child nutrition, maintenance, and custodial. All operations staff members embrace the concept of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and look for ways to improve services through processes, equipment, supplies/tools, and vendor participation.
The Edmond Public Schools transportation department operates more than 100 buses on a daily basis. Each bus runs three to four routes which usually include high school and/or middle school, followed by an early elementary and a late elementary. Our EPS transportation department staff drive about 1.5 million miles annually when you combine their daily routes with extra-curricular activities.
The Child Nutrition department is a 200-member team of food and nutrition professionals dedicated to providing more than 2.6 million healthy meals to students every year. Child Nutrition is responsible for operating and maintaining 29 kitchens throughout the district, as well as a central test kitchen. As part of the USDA’s National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program, all Child Nutrition food and beverages sold and served meet state and federal requirements, which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines.
The maintenance division takes care of district equipment and works to ensure that all district facilities run smoothly. The division is comprised of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, cabinetry, carpentry, painting, grounds, general maintenance, and locksmiths. Licensed specialists include four plumbers, five electricians, and four HVAC technicians. During the year, employees complete more than 13,000 work orders including monthly preventative orders, covering more than 4,000,000 square feet of building space and 700 acres of property.
Custodial employees are charged with cleaning and maintaining almost four million square feet at more than 30 district buildings over 130 square miles. Each of the school sites is provided with a custodial staff that is appropriate for the square footage of the building. Services included cleaning, grounds, moving furniture, minor maintenance, and deliveries.
