The Edmond Board of Education has named Jamila Crawford principal of Scissortail Elementary, the district’s newest elementary school scheduled to open in August of 2022 southwest of the intersection of NW 150th St and Pennsylvania Ave. The new school will help to offset the considerable student growth at other elementary schools in the southwest quadrant of the district.
Crawford has been the principal at Cross Timbers elementary since 2015. Prior to that, she served as an assistant principal at Cross Timbers, and Orvis Risner Elementary. She also spent 12 years as a first-grade teacher serving at both Charles Haskell Elementary and Ida Freeman Elementary.
“Jamila has an energy level and excitement about the opening of Scissortail that is contagious,” said Superintendent Angela Grunewald. “I am confident that she will bring together a passionate group of teachers and staff to build a vibrant culture and climate at the school that is inviting and educationally sound.”
“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve the Scissortail community, “ said Crawford. “As an Edmond Public School graduate, I have a passion for our community and can’t wait to cultivate a culture of excellence at Scissortail. Through a collaborative process involving all stakeholders, we are poised to develop optimal learning opportunities for all and build on the tremendous momentum we have in our district.”
Scissortail Elementary is the district’s 19th elementary school. Attendance area assignments for the school will be announced this spring.
Crawford has a master’s in educational leadership from the University of Central Oklahoma.
