Nicole Marler, principal at Ida Freeman Elementary, has been selected as the 2022 Oklahoma Elementary Principal of the Year.

Marler was surprised by the news of her award Thursday, April 21, 2022.

The award is given by the Oklahoma Association of Elementary School Principals (OAESP) and is a part of the National Distinguished Principal’s Initiative.

A selection committee comprising past National Distinguished Principal winners and the OAESP board members reviewed nominations submitted to the committee, narrowed the field to three individuals, and then visited Ida Freeman in mid-April to conduct interviews with staff, parents, and community members to gain insight into the culture of the school.

Marler has been with Edmond Public Schools for 12 years and has served as principal at Ida Freeman since 2017. Prior to becoming a principal, she served as an elementary school counselor in the district and during that time was named the Oklahoma School Psychologist of the Year.
