Dear EPS Secondary Parents and Students,
Edmond Public Schools’ Technology department is committed to helping students and parents as we navigate this most unique 2020-2021 school year. All students in 6th -12th grade will be issued a district Chromebook for use at school and at home. This Chromebook has a protective case, a charger, and is filtered to protect your students as they navigate the internet. While students in secondary schools have used a Chromebook for many years, the idea of using a Chromebook for remote learning in the A/B schedule may bring many questions for both students and parents. Below are some explanations on issues that might arise as a result of the new learning environment.
How does my child receive a Chromebook?
Students who attended Edmond Public Schools in the 2019-2020 school year should still have their district-issued Chromebook. If your student checked in their district-issued Chromebook during one of the Senior Check-In Days by mistake, please ask them to visit their site Chromebook Manager so they can be issued another Chromebook. We can not guarantee the student will have the same Chromebook as last year. All student Chromebooks were inspected and cleaned over the summer to ensure they are in proper working condition. If your student is new to Edmond Public Schools, they will be sent to the site Chromebook Manager during school to receive a district Chromebook. All Virtual Edmond Students will receive information from their home school about how to receive a district-issued Chromebook.
What are the Chromebook expectations?
Students are expected to keep the device in proper working order at all times. This device is to be charged at home and taken from home to school for daily use. If a Chromebook is not working properly, students are required to take the device in for repairs. Because of concerns with the spread of COVID, students will be issued another Chromebook to use for the remainder of the school year. Below are the locations where students take the broken Chromebook on the various learning days.
AT SCHOOL: Students should bring the device to your site Chromebook Manager
REMOTE LEARNING & VIRTUAL STUDENTS: Bring the student device to Technology Central between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
1216 South Rankin Street
What is the Student Technology Protection Plan (STPP)?
This protection plan covers 100% of the cost of the first accidental damage incident and 50% of the cost of a second accidental damage incident. We strongly recommend parents take advantage of this plan. Your child will be automatically enrolled in the STPP when you pay the $25 fee. You must make this payment between July 6th and September 19th using the InTouch online payment system or in person at your child’s school.
How can my student receive technology support?
The Student EdTech Website is the most convenient tool for helpful resources for Chromebooks and various learning tools. If you require more support than the website offers, your student’s teachers will be the first point of contact. Teachers should be able to address issues with assignments, embedded web tools, website navigation and support, Canvas course navigation, distance learning, and general classroom questions. If your teacher is unable to assist your student, please use the Online Support Request Form. Starting August 20th, the Technology Helpline will also be available at (405) 726-3333 between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
What happens if I do not have home internet?
For families that do not have an internet connection in their home, EPS will provide a Hotspot device. This is a small device that provides a cellular connection to the internet. These devices are for instructional use only and will not allow access to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Social Media and other such sites. Application forms for these devices are available on the EPS Technology Page, and these devices will be available for pickup at the EPS Administration Center and/or the EPS Tech Central location on or before the start of school. Please check the EPS Technology web page for updated information.
