My time at EMHS (10th-12th grade) was a time of reintegration into American culture after having been overseas from 3rd grade to 9th grade. Friendships made in German club, Band, Honor society and in class and in church were memorable and helpful with my acculturation. English, German, Math and Science classes taught gave me a good basis for my studies at OU in Civil Engineering first, and then in Linguistics after I changed my major. In retrospect, French would have been a more appropriate language to study since I live and work in French-speaking West Africa. My job in linguistics has morphed into one in administration and so I think I use a little bit of all that I learned every day.

I came to Edmond Memorial for the last two years of my high school career. I was lucky to play basketball with some great players. I was also luck to play football with some great players. With athletics, I never felt like an outsider. In the classroom was another world. Athletics taught me to respect a person both on and off the court. Coach DelaGarza and Coach Lantz were two excellent coaches who showed me that athletics and academics could work together. The faculty and staff at Memorial opened their classrooms and their hearts to me. Many of them had the influence on me to become a teacher.

In college, Edmond students were able to balance the new changes with more ease than other students, due to the strong course-loads and the opportunities presented in high school. My education in Edmond offered several active leadership roles, athletic team involvement, social opportunities as well as several options for an enhanced education, such as AP courses, speed reading, and sign language.   I will always look at my time in the school system as a positive and fulfilling experience.  One vivid opportunity that made an impact – Swine Week.  No matter what clique or group students were part of, we pulled together, raising thousands of dollars to help others. This event reflects life through work, church, and community. Thanks, Edmond.

Over the years I've found that the strong foundation built by my early education in the Edmond Public Schools has allowed me to achieve many things academically and professionally. I feel certain that the quality educators and strong parental support made the difference in my education. I did not realize at the time tht the lessons I was learning would not only improve my test scores but also develop my ability to apply the lessons to other aspects of my life. My work is centered in oceanography and marine sciences, so I liken my experience in Edmond Public Schools to that of a fertile tital estuary.  I was given all the nourishment, shelter and support I needed to move into the world and make my own way.

High school taught me how to be competitive and strive for excellence through music. I would not have the multiple degrees I have today or the lifestyle I’m afforded in Silicon Valley but for my experiences at Edmond High School. I’ve been highly successful in the legal industry as a computer forensics analyst and give myself back to the community as a victim’s advocate for battered and abused women.

Edmond Santa Fe was a great High School. It was very diverse and gave me a great education. We always had events to recognize our sports teams and other extracurricular activities. I am currently serving my country in the United States Navy. I live in Misawa Japan, and though I just started my job, I most definitely want to pursue this as a career.

Edmond was a great town/school to grow up in, in large part because of my teachers in Edmond Schools. I always had, and still have, great friends from my days at Edmond, but the faculty helped shape us and give us a good foundation for out future. I'm proud to be an Edmond Bulldog, and thankful that Edmond Schools prepared me academically, socially and for "real world" situations.

I have the fondest memories of my time at EMHS. From an academic standpoint, I was certainly prepared to take on the college courses that awaited.  But more importantly, I recall an atmosphere of encouragement from the administration and faculty.  It’s safe to say I was an unconventional student, but many of my teachers embraced that and challenged me to turn  my “creativity” toward constructive pursuits.  I recall specifically the patience of Mrs. Whitely, Mr. McWilliams and Mrs. Rogers who endured occasional disruptions in their lesson plan to allow a little “free-form thinking” on my part. EMHS provided me with great memories and a solid foundation for the future.  I’m proud to be a Bulldog and a 79er!

Before there were three high schools in Edmond, we were all a pack of manic Bulldogs!!! I earned a fantastic education while at Edmond, a school district I thrived in from first grade through high school graduation.  So many great teachers whose names escape me right now: English, math, science, music…They were more than classroom teachers- they were mentors.  When they let me write those pie-eyed reports on rock stars or let me photograph high school bands for yearbook – looking back, each of those teaches saw something in me that has since bloomed into my career as a music journalist.

Santa Fe High School gave me the education and the opportunities that led me to the leadership position I hold today.  I hold my high school teachers at such high regard because they made me not only ready, but excited for college.  Santa Fe gave me the knowledge about serving our country, and along with my family, I made the most important decision in my life, to join the Army.  I gladly give credit to my school for expecting nothing but the best of me and making me a better leader because of it.  I am now an officer in the Army and, as a leader, I expect nothing but the best from my soldiers.  Thank you, Santa Fe, for aiding in the person I have become today.

The nature of my times at EMHS were varied. Great sports memories from the baseball field with Coach Simmons to heroic moments on the football field. I will never forget our loss in the State Championship football game in Stillwater. I don't think I have ever been as cold as I was at that game!

I could never forget the performances and rehearsals with Vocal Music. And then there were the classes like Biology, Chemistry, Calculus, German. I never thought any of that "stuff" could ever possibly help me in life. Those demanding and often grueling music rehearsals, sports practices and homework assignments have gone along way in preparing me for life after high school. I was taught by those instructors and coaches that to succeed at anything, you must be dedicated, focused, and determined. Those traits instilled in me have allowed me to excel in business and real estate.

As with most students, you have good experiences and some bad experiences while in high school.  But these experiences help you deal with life as an adult.  Although I was not in the ‘popular’ crowd, I knew just about every student and I think they knew me.  I have a handful of close friends which include 3 from our graduating class.  We keep in touch on a regular basis.  I am thankful for all the friendships I made in high school and I am now keeping in touch with friends I haven’t seen since our reunions, thru my new Facebook connection.
