About the OK-81st
Established in 1973, the OK-81st Air Force JROTC Program is the second oldest AFJROTC program in the state of Oklahoma and is recognized as a “Founding Unit” by AFJROTC Headquarters at Maxwell Air Force Base. Starting with only 53 cadets, the OK-81st has grown across schools, facilities, and cadet enrollment. Initially located at what is now Central Middle School, the OK-81st now calls Edmond North High School home. The OK-81st has been recognized as a National Honor Unit for the past several years and continues to be recognized as one of the best in the United States. Additionally, it has been recognized as an Outstanding Unit in the State of Oklahoma.
At no time are you under obligation to join any branch of the Armed Forces. The purpose of JROTC is NOT to enlist you in any type of military service. The mission of JROTC is to “Develop Citizens of Character.”
Our curriculum is divided into three categories: Aerospace Science, Leadership Education, and Wellness Training.
Aerospace Science acquaints students with the elements of aerospace and the aerospace environment. It introduces them to the principles of space flight, principles of aircraft flight and navigation, the heritage of flight, aviation history, the development of air power, contemporary aviation, human requirements of flight, the space environment, space programs, space technology, rocketry, propulsion, the aerospace industry, the science of flight, astronomy, geography, policy and organization, and survival.
Leadership Education is the portion of the AFJROTC curriculum that develops leadership skills and acquaints students with the practical application of life skills. The LE curriculum emphasizes discipline, responsibility, leadership, followership, citizenship, customs and courtesies, cadet corps activities, study habits, time management, communication skills, and drill and ceremonies.
Wellness Training provides leadership opportunities, builds esprit de corps, and increases cadet confidence. The purpose of the Wellness/PT Program is to provide a standardized, facility variations-minded curriculum offering substantial individual health improvements. The objective is to motivate cadets to lead active lifestyles beyond program requirements, into their adult lives.
In addition to these three areas, cadets are encouraged to adopt the Air Force Core Values:
Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do.
